Motorola sues Apple

| October 7, 2010 | 0 Comments

The mobile wars are still going on and now Motorola slaps Apple with patent lawsuit in three separate complaints; in district courts in Illinois and Florida and a separate complaint filed with the U.S. International Trade Commission. The suits cover 18 different patents violating Apple in infringe their R&D and intellectual property rights.

These patents are about Motorola’s communication technologies, such as WCDMA, GPRS, 802.11 and antenna design, also it may come to wireless e-mail, proximity sensing, software application management, location-based services and multi-device synchronization too. With this step the company wants the court to block the import of Apple’s allegedly infringing products.

Motorola has been in mobile market for many years while Apple is relatively a newbie here, so Motorola has a rich history, on every cycle of the telecommunications industry evolution Motorola has patented its products and innovations.  As Kirk Dailey, corporate vice president of intellectual property at Motorola Mobility, said “…the company owns tens of thousands of patents and will do everything to protect its rights, as these patents are the critical to the company’s business.”

I have only to say that Apple hasn’t comment this yet, and it’s become clear that this kind of suits are a strategical step for the companies.
